A Country Song Wedding- Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck

With country music being one of my favorite genres, I was excited when we (Storytellers Events) decided to do a styled weddings shoot based off of the popular song “Somethin’ ’bout a Truck” by Kip Moore. This Colorado wedding styled shoot was set to include every detail a real wedding would have: venue, catering, DJ, flowers, the whole works.  It had everything, but a bride and groom. After some thought, and going back and forth with the wonderful Ali and Garrett photography, we decided that it would be a fantastic idea to give a real wedding away to a deserving couple who loved country as much as we do!  And we found them!

The lucky couple, Sloane and Mitch, married one another on May 28th in true country fashion. The ceremony and reception took place outside, near Firestone, Colorado. The landscape was the perfect setting for a “country” wedding. Surrounded by water, trees, a dirt road (and even the bugs), picnic tables, wine barrels (thank you Allwell Rents), and country music, the couple sealed their vows. After the ceremony, the couple and their guests celebrated by doing line dances in their cowboy boots and swing dancing into the sunset. The unique country wedding was filled with whiskey bottles, hors d’oeuvres (fried chicken and grits), cowboy hats and lots of love.

Since the weddings theme was based off of “Somethin’ ’bout a Truck” we wanted to go along with the theme of country songs/lyrics. The bar was set up in the bed of a truck labeled, “you’ll be my glass of wine I’ll be your shot of whiskey,” the lyrics from Blake Shelton’s song “Honey Bee”.

The menu was also very important, and each item served had it’s own Country Song!  The amazing people at Elevated Catering made sure class and country came together deliciously.  To keep with the Whisky theme, we thought the chocolate whiskey bundt cakes provided by The Sugar Bakeshop (yup, the same ones who were featured on the Cooking Channel) would be perfect! Check it out below…

Aside from the bride and groom, the DJ is usually the hit of the wedding- after all it’s the DJ’s job to make sure the celebration is nothing less than a good time!  The DJ played a wide variety of country music- and we couldn’t resist the signage at his table saying, “You make my speakers go boom boom.”  Thanks Total Encore!

To add a personal touch, our amazing Suzanne created a unique guest book where she created a wood engraving of the couple’s name, and had the guests sign it.  She then created CD favors, where she included all of the songs of the wedding, including the ones used as inspiration for the tables, the bar, the menu, and the DJ table.  How fun!

The real wedding giveaway was such a blast and we loved everything about it! We could not have done it without all of the fabulous vendors! My personal favorite was the line dancing! Make sure to check out all the pictures from this fabulous day.

Wedding Day Shoes | Cowboy Boots

Many of us gals are shoe lovers and, for some, the shoes we wear on our wedding day are almost as important as the dress. So many things go into what we choose for our feet- color, they could be neutral to give more help accenting something else or bold to make a statement or show off personality- style, to go along with personality or your theme, and most important- comfort, because you may not have a chance to just sit.

Of course being in the Wild West for Colorado weddings, some of our awesome brides have chosen to sport the cowgirl boots on their wedding day in some way. Talk about comfort and style!

Our bride Katy did a mixture of heels and cowgirl boots on her big day. For the ceremony and pictures she wore the classic heel as her something blue. Once all the formalities were done, the bride, groom, and members of the wedding party had their dancing shoes waiting for them at the head table (either cowboy boots or flip flops given as gifts to the wedding party).

Cowgirl boots give that punch of color, style that shows off a country girl’s personality, and comfort that no stiletto can give.

Storytellers Interview with Selah Photography

Storytellers Events was given the opportunity to sit down and talk with a local Colorado wedding photographer, and soon to be bride,  Jackie Nuxoll.  Owner of Selah Photography, Nuxoll sees wedding pictures from a more artistic perspective in contrast to the classic bridal party posses.

“I am drawn to art,” Nuxoll explains.  Turning wedding photographs into fine art becomes more significant and creates a timeless piece for the couple.  Nuxoll is drawn to wedding photography because of the meaningful and emotional aspect each special day contains.

Nuxoll does not plan very many of her shots, most of them are improv.  “I look at the light and the background I have access to,” Nuxoll describes.   She also explained how she listens to the personalities of the couple to create custom and unique shots.  Every couple is different.  Nuxoll enjoys capturing those spontaneous moments.

About to walk down the aisle herself, Nuxoll has seen wedding preparations from both perspectives.  She has a few tips to share with future brides:

-It’s okay to not get your way.

-I am not a Bridezilla! If you say that, you are.

-Instead of asking for deals, ask if you can get less of the vendors services instead.

-Seek out vendor reviews.

-Don’t forget about you and your fiance’s relationship.

-Think outside the box.

-When stressing out about things, ask yourself if it really matters. If not, cut it.  Focus on the important things, ask yourself if it is fun.

-Teamwork.

-It’s okay if everyone isn’t involved.

In case you were wondering, the word ‘Selah’ is hebrew and used in the Book of Psalms.  It’s actual translation is a mystery, but mostly it means to look back, to stop and listen.  Nuxoll chose this word for the relationship it holds to her photography.

On the most important day of your life, how do you want to remember the moments?
