Kendra and Stefen Wedding

I love this couple.  That is the first thing that comes to mind when I see these photos and remember the day.  I just love this couple.  Talk about cute- and thoughtful- and generous- and in love.  These two have got it.

And their day was filled with such a warm feeling of love.

They celebrated at the wonderful Cielo at Castle Pines because they loved the openness of the reception hall- and that they could have the ceremony and the reception in one spot.  Fabulous choice.

What I remember most about he day is how adamant the groomsmen were about the placement and the timing of a pink stool during the ceremony- we had to practice even- because it was going to be a a surprise for the bride.  They even had an “act” worked out with the officiant, so when the time came “to kiss the bride” the groomsmen got the stool so that she could stand on it- and not feel so short- kissing her man.  (There’s a little height difference ;)).  AND they painted it in pink- her favorite color.  Yup- so much laughter that day.

We were honored that this wedding was featured in HERlife magazine thanks to the wonderful JM Photoart!  Thank you, Jenny, for capturing their day so wonderfully.

Emerald Green Wedding

As featured on Landlocked Bride

We knew we wanted to do a wedding styled shoot with the 2013 Pantone Color of the year- Emerald Green.  Then what?  We tossed around a lot of ideas, wanting the style to be elegant and not kitschy.  None of the ideas stuck until… until we met the bride. We were completely inspired by her whimsical and edgy style. I mean, how could we not, she had emerald green hair!

We also loved the idea of pairing her edgier style with the timeless elegance of the venue, Castle Cliff Estate. In searching for unique ways to incorporate emerald green into a theme, we thought, “what could be more whimsical than Wizard of Oz and the Emerald City?” Therefore, we chose our favorite Oz quote for the lollipop favors, used the yellow brick road as our table name, the Tornado for the cocktail, and a Justin Alexander gown from The Bridal Collection that had a Glenda look. Our florist, Bella Calla’s, inspiration also came to life with our Emerald city where the centerpieces and bouquet displayed the whimsical feel of walking through the forest and poppy fields. The theme also helped with our color scheme, bringing in greens, yellows (yellow brick road), and reds (the ruby slippers).

At Castle Cliff Estate, in Sedalia, Colorado, we were able to use existing furniture, which was a nice backdrop to our DIY projects incorporated into the day. Many of our couples ask us about DIY opportunities for their wedding and we thought this was a fun way to showcase our ideas for DIY desserts. We made cupcakes and cake pops and our word of advice is that cake pops are a lot more difficult than they seem (we recommend using a professional, or get a cake pop maker with a lot of trial runs.) To go along with the unique feel of the shoot, we loved the cocktail hour marquee sign from Saddle Shoe Signs– and of course in red! We totally had to incorporate it somehow.

Even though we usually use rentals for glassware for weddings, we got lucky and found the green wine and martini glasses as well as some decor items at Pier 1 Imports, on sale.  So, do not discount checking out stores, and sometimes it is cost effective to buy rather than rent.

Magically, it just so happened that the day of the shoot  (in March) we had a major snowstorm in Colorado. We are still amazed all the vendors made the trek in the snow storm- yup, they are amazing- and we only had a couple of mishaps with sliding cars (oops…)  The snow was not expected, but we were able to take advantage of its beauty, which added to the romance of the day and the stark color contrast.

We were lucky enough for this shoot to be featured on Landlocked Bride!  They must have great taste :)!

We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!  Autumn Cutaia Photography, you are wonderful to work with, a gem of a person, and we just love your photos!

Being Thankful

thankfulgroup32013 has been and continues to be a great year for those of us at Storytellers Events- and after this Holiday weekend we realized we have a lot to be thankful for…

I’m sitting here with my newborn sleeping in my arms, and can’t help but wonder what I did to deserve such blessings in my life.  This year, for me, has been about figuring out what truly is the most important…so here’s to the amazing man I get to call my husband- who still holds my hand in the middle of the night, to my beautiful 2 sons (wow, I have 2 now) who keep me smiling and snuggling- even at 3 in the morning, to my family who continue to love and support us, to the crazy amazing friends- old and new- we get to share our lives with, to book club for keeping the wine flowing, to yummy chocolate cake and to sipping hot chocolate around the fire, to all my students who allow me to be myself in front of the classroom (yup- mostly crazy) and who provide me the honor and privilege to teach something and hopefully make a difference in this world, to all the amazing vendors I get to work with in the wedding industry- I love working with you because you make me happy- so thank you, to all our clients through Storytellers- thank you for trusting us with such a special day- and thank you for allowing us to be a part of making your dreams come true, and to the three amazing ladies who work with me at Storytellers Events as wedding planners- they have become family- so much so that my husband has now nicknamed them “the crazy aunts”- a title I think we need to keep.

Speaking of crazy aunts, they have something to say too- so keep reading.  AND- because we have received so much- it is time for us to give…  Therefore, for the entire month of December 2013, we will be giving a $125 discount to any wedding package purchased.

I am so lucky – and I am very aware that I love my life because of the people I get to share it with.  So, truly, thank you.

This year has been quite a year for me with very deep valleys and towering peaks, which lends to multiple, multiple thanks to be given. First and foremost, I want to thank all the couples I’ve helped with their weddings this year. It is a wonderful, fun, and exciting learning experience with every couple and I am SO thankful they put their trust in me and the Storytellers Team to allow us to not only be a part of their big day and the days/weeks/months leading up to it, but to also run the show on their day-of! Next, I have to give praise and mountains of thanks to the Storytellers team. To be able to work with such women is an honor. Professionally and personally, Cielle, Suzanne, and Candace have been a much needed constant, my voice when I can’t find words and even mentors. These ladies have become family to me and I can’t be more thankful to have them by my side or to stand by their side as a co-worker and friend.

I also need to give thanks to my non-event co-workers who have and continue to support me in not just event planning but also my other passion in life, teaching. Next, I give thanks to family and friends. Per usual, they stand by me or tell me I’m crazy (whichever is needed) in whatever endeavor I suddenly come up with to take action upon. It is because of family and friends that I’ve made it this far and look forward to continuing toward the person I want to be. Last, and definitely not least, I give thanks to the 2 most important people in my life: my boyfriend, Tommy and my Mom. Tommy has shown and given me opportunities in life I never dreamed of for myself, let alone thought they could be reality. My Mother’s support is beyond abundant and I would be lost without her, so my biggest thanks, and hugs, goes to her. Wishes to everyone on a loving and filling Thanksgiving! Happy Thanksgiving! 😀

I am thankful for being able to be a part of so many beautiful events that happen in people’s lives from weddings and event planning to my own family get togethers.  Coming together with people is important to me.  I am thankful for my time spent with friends and family especially cherish my time with my nephew, Alex, and my nieces, Katherine and Cyndall.  This is a wonderful time of year, rich in memories and customs with sights, sounds, and smells all around that gladden my spirit.  I am so thankful that my journey has brought me to Storytellers Events where my family keeps on growing!

 —–

Although I believe it is important to be thankful all the time, this time of year it is especially important to be thankful. This holiday season I am thankful for many things in my life, but a few standout from the rest. I am thankful for my family, friends, and most recently the opportunity to be a part of Storytellers Events. I am so thankful for my parents. They have been my rock since day one. I am thankful that my family loves me and supports me with any decision I choose to make. Without my parents I wouldn’t be who I am today.

My friends are everything to me and I cherish each and every one of them. I am so thankful for the friendships I have developed. Without my friends I’d probably laugh a little less, cry and little less (from not laughing so hard), and much more, but most importantly I wouldn’t be experiencing life to the fullest if I didn’t have my friends.

Lastly, I am thankful for Storytellers. Words cannot describe how thankful I am to be a part of Storytellers. I have been working with Storytellers for a little over 9 months, however, I feel like I have been a part of our awesome team for much longer. Not only do I have the opportunity to help couples make their special day a dream come true, but I get to work with some of the most amazing women I know. All of the weddings and events we help plan are a true blessing to be a part of and I couldn’t be more thankful and happy to stand alongside Cielle, Veronica, and Suzanne.

Love, Me | Kissing tree | Storytellers Events

Maybe it is because I’m preggers, but I heard this Colin Raye song in Costco the other day, and the tears would not stop…

Fast forward a week and I told my husband about the song and tried to describe it, and he knew it.  So, he began singing it to make sure that he was thinking of the same one, and….the waterworks began again!  And then we both couldn’t stop laughing at me and my unstoppable tears.

In my defense, I think there is something beautiful about the love shared in life, and the love shared even in absence … (maybe it’s good that the sap in me is a wedding planner ;)).

“If you get there before I do/ Don’t give up on me

I’ll meet you when my chores are through/ I don’t know how long I’ll be

But I’m not gonna let you down/ Darling wait and see

And between now and then/ ‘Til I see you again

I’ll be loving you/ Love, Me.”

AND THEN, I saw this photo of one of our couples- and it totally reminded me of the song and the kissing tree:

wedding couple kissing tree

Sloane and Mitch- thank you for being so beautiful together in your love and with your family.

And for a little inspiration if you do not know the lyrics to the song, here they are:

I read a note my Grandma wrote back in 1923
Grandpa kept it in his coat, and he showed it once to me
He said, “Boy, you might not understand, but a long, long time ago,
Grandma’s daddy didn’t like me none, but I love your Grandma so.

We had this crazy plan to meet and run away together
Get married in the first town we came to and live forever
But nailed to the tree where we were supposed to meet instead
I found this letter, and this is what it said,

“If you get there before I do
Don’t give up on me
I’ll meet you when my chores are through
I don’t know how long I’ll be

But I’m not gonna let you down
Darling wait and see
And between now and then
Til I see you again

I’ll be loving you
Love, Me.”

I read those words just hours before my Grandma passed away
In the doorway of the church where me and Grandpa stopped to pray
I know I’ve never seen him cry in all my fifteen years
But as he said these words to her, his eyes fill up with tears

“If you get there before I do
Don’t give up on me
I’ll meet you when my chores are through
I don’t know how long I’ll be

But I’m not gonna let you down
Darling wait and see
And between now and then
Til I see you again

I’ll be loving you
Love, Me.”
