“I’m on a Bike” wedding | Genesee Park, CO | Golden, CO wedding | Storytellers Events

Melissa and Jeff became one on a beautiful Colorado day in May. The ceremony took place outside at Genesee Mountain with amazing views. Much like many brides fear, Melissa feared it was going to rain as the sky became dark and gloomy, but to everyone’s surprise, right as the ceremony started the clouds passed and the sun came out. Melissa and Jeff exchanged personal vows, making their special day even more personal to one another. Jeff’s nephew and niece shared the poem, “Falling in Love is Like Owning a Dog”, by Taylor Mali (click on the link for the full awesome poem). The two children had the guests laughing as though they were at a comedy show; it was the icing on the cake and the ceremony was sealed with a perfect kiss (with a dip)!

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktail hour followed by the reception at Mount Vernon Country Club. Mount Vernon Country Club catered the dinner and the wedding cake.  Melissa and Jeff wanted to incorporate biking and bikes into their wedding as it is a favorite hobby for them both. Jeff wore socks with tiny bikes on them (check out the photos below) and for their second grand entrance into their first dance, they rode in on bikes to the song “I’m on Bike”. Yes, the hip-hop version and yes, this was a first for us too ;)!

Another great idea was with their escort cards, each person received a photo of an activity, and the guests had to match it with the table name, for example:  a photo of a couple kissing was matched with the “Kissing” table.  It was cute watching the guests enjoy matching up their tables to their cards- and they got to keep the frame! Favor and escort card all in one!

Following dinner, the couple opened the dance floor by dancing their first dance to a swing jive. They were awesome!  Melissa and her father did a remix to their special father-daughter dance by doing the now popular Harlem Shake. Yes, the father’s idea! And mid-song, the wedding party joined in! The guests loved the non-traditional dances and there were a lot of hoots and hollers. The DJs at A Music Plus kept the energy high until the very end and everyone enjoyed the evening by dancing and celebrating the newly married couple.

Thank you, Melissa and Jeff, for allowing us to be your wedding planners and to help with the process!  We loved every moment.

Denver A List | Voted top 5 Denver Wedding Planners

Denver A LIst

Yes, we are finally blogging about our recent accolade…being voted in the top 5 Denver wedding planners for 2013…

Honestly, I have postponed posting about this because I was not quite sure what to write…how to say ‘thank you’ without making it sound insincere or over-the-top.

And today, I figure, who cares?  So, here goes!

Thank you so much to all of you who have supported us since I had this ‘crazy’ idea to start an international wedding planning company 2- 1/2 years ago.  It continues to be an amazing journey, and I continue to feel blessed by the people I meet by being in this amazing wedding industry.

I am humbled at the success we have had in the little amount of time we have been open, and even though I know in my brain it took a lot of work, I feel extremely lucky at the same time.

Thank you to all the amazing couples, their families, and their friends, who have opened up their wedding days to us to share in the joy, the love, the laughter, and the happy tears…every wedding I go to I wonder how I got to be so lucky that I get to witness such love…and to top it off, it’s my job!  Does it get any better?

I huge thank you to those who have worked diligently by my side to make this company work!  You are my extended family, and I know I could not do it without you!  Veronica, Suzanne, Candace, Liz, and Mariah- our Wednesday night dinner meetings are just the best!

And to my amazing (and super handsome) husband who held my hand and talked me through all those days when I doubted myself and all the time I was putting into the business.

Ah- now that I am done, I feel like I gave a speech at the Oscars or something…  Love you guys!  And very excited for what the next year will bring!

Phew- enough with the cheesiness…summary:  thank you.

Putting FUN Back Into Cocktail Hour | Denver Wedding Planners | Storytellers Events

As wedding planners, we often get asked about how to keep the cocktail hour fun.  The cocktail hour is that awkward time of the wedding when the guests don’t know exactly what they should be doing and the wedding party is off taking pictures, which depending on different variables can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 90 minutes. Therefore, brides tend to wonder what they can do to keep their guests entertained without them being there to entertain them.  Here are three (3) things you can do!

A.  Serve Food and Refreshments – People love to eat! Most guests are also hungry and thirsty by this time and ready for something to nibble and sip on. One fun way to put your own spin on this is by making the appetizers things that you and your new hubby really enjoy. Maybe they are mini hamburgers, or mini grilled cheese sandwiches, or even a fun cocktails that you and your mister invented yourselves.  Don’t be afraid to be creative.

B.  Cartoonist/Photobooth – Having a cartoonist at the wedding and/or a photobooth during the cocktail hour is always a easy and great way to entertain guests, plus you can always request a copy of each drawing/photo taken for your guest book or keep sakes!  Besides, the guests begin to loosen up and get goofy, which adds to the fun of the reception.

C.  Games!!! Games!!! Games!!! – There are so many indoor and outdoor games you can have for your wedding guests to play to help pass the time. Here are my personal top 3 favorites:

  • Giant Tic Tac Toe – This is the easiest one to execute and everyone knows how to play. You can set it up for either indoors or outdoors. Plus there is something about playing games in “giant form” that makes them that much more fun!
  • Giant Jenga – If you have been out at night in Denver, you may have noticed that this popular kid’s game is seen at local bars all around town. It is so loved by local bar goers that lines normally form to play with your friends. This is another easy game to execute and can also be set up either indoors or outdoors. To make it even more your own, you can put a special monogram or dialog on the playing blocks. I will definitely be having this one at my wedding.

As an added bonus, the Curtis Hotel in downtown Denver has both of these games in super size for their wedding couples to use on their big day :).

  • Cornhole – I love this one, not just because it is tons of fun, but also because you can put whatever image you want on the Cornhole boxes, or even the bean bags. This is more of an outdoor than indoor game, but still could make a very cute twist and addition to your wedding day!

Again, if you and your hubby like to do a certain activity, then chances are your wedding guests will too!  We have seen cocktail hour include a mechanical bull, magicians (classy ones), food trucks, and croquet (amongst others)….Have fun with it!

Until next time, happy wedding planning!
